hoi polloi ltd was founded in 2009 with the aim of producing innovative performing arts which stimulate, challenge and entertain. hoi polloi have set out to work only with the bravest ideas and practitioners and are interested in exploring social, political and personal themes which also give audiences a good time.
Manifesto :
We set out to provide brave entertainment. We want to push ourselves, our peers and our audiences. We aim to give people the opportunity to explain, question and enjoy themselves. We want to do things that are engaging, that set off a 'limbic moment', that delight or make you want to shoutcrylaugh.

John Wenger Business Manager
John is the Business Manager of hoi polloi ltd. He and Matt Norton formed the company to be a vehicle to produce brave new film, theatre and television. John is the Business Manager of hoi polloi ltd. He and Matt Norton formed the company to be a vehicle to produce brave new film, theatre and television.
He brings a genuine enthusiasm for performing arts that are intelligent, quirky, stimulating, visceral. He also has a drive to bring good stories to the stage and screen. John applies his years of experience of running his own businesses and managing organisations and has successfully coordinated the activities of varied and highly passionate teams while keeping within very tight budgets. He also applies what he has learnt from 12 years of training in the psychodrama method. He has taken up the role of Producer for 'The Mucks' (2009) and the Chapman Tripp-nominated 'Gene Pool' (2010).

Matt Norton Creative Director
Matt has been working in the performing arts industry since 2008. A trained actor and anthropologist, he is the Creative Director of hoi polloi ltd. He is passionate about creating innovative, high quality entertainment for discerning audiences. He is passionate about showcasing the superior talents of New Zealand practitioners both in NZ and in the global market.
He has worked as Assistant Director to Warwick Broadhead as well as devising and producing his own show, 'The Mucks', in Auckland in 2009, and co-producing the Chapman Tripp-nominated 'Gene Pool' in Wellington in 2010. |
